What an AI checker actually does

An AI checker (also called an AI detector or AI content checker) estimates whether a passage looks machine-written. It does not “know” which model wrote the text and it cannot prove authorship. It weighs patterns such as even pacing, stock transitions, generic examples and low personal detail, then shows which sentences carry the strongest signal.

AI checker vs plagiarism checker

A plagiarism checker looks for copied wording against a database of published sources. An AI checker looks for style and structure typical of large language models. Text can be original and still look AI-written, or plagiarized and still look human. Use each tool for its job — and never treat either score as a final verdict.

When a free AI checker helps most

Teachers and editors use it as a first pass before a conversation. Students use it to spot generic sentences in their own drafts. Creators use it to catch flat intros before publishing. For longer essays, also try the [AI detector for essays](/ai-detector-for-essays/); for ChatGPT-specific checks, see the [ChatGPT detector](/chatgpt-detector/).

How to get a steadier AI check

Paste complete paragraphs, not bullet outlines or single sentences. Aim for 300 words or more when you can. Check the original English text rather than a translation or a heavy paraphrase. Then read the highlighted sentences and their reasons — the percentage alone is easy to misread.

Reading “AI,” “human” and “mixed” results

A high AI score means the sample looks like typical machine writing; it does not prove a specific tool was used. A human score means few of those patterns showed up. Mixed usually means some sentences look generic and others look specific — common when someone drafts with AI and then edits, or writes formally without personal detail.

What this free AI checker does not do

It does not search the web for plagiarism, identify which model wrote the text, or replace a teacher’s or editor’s judgment. False positives happen with English learners, highly formal academic prose and templated business writing. Use the [full AI detector](/ai-detector/) for longer samples with the same engine, or the [AI humanizer](/ai-humanizer/) if you are revising your own draft’s voice.

Understanding the limits

No AI detector is 100% accurate. Results are probabilistic estimates and should never be used as the only evidence that someone used AI. Treat them as one signal alongside drafts, revision history, and a conversation with the writer.

Frequently asked questions

Is this AI checker free?

Yes. There is no login, no daily limit beyond the character cap, and no paid tier. Analysis runs in your browser.

Is an AI checker the same as an AI detector?

In practice, yes. People search both phrases for the same job: estimating whether text looks AI-generated.

Can it check essays and homework?

Yes. Paste at least 80 words (300+ is steadier). For school writing, the essay and teacher landings go deeper on how to read the result fairly.

What is the minimum length?

80 words. Results under that threshold are too noisy to show. Around 300 words or more is more reliable.

Is my text uploaded?

No. The AI checker runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is stored on a server.

Does “AI checker free” mean limited features?

No. The free checker includes the estimate, sentence highlights and explanations. There is no premium unlock.
